Lizzo was the musical guest for Saturday Night Live for the third time over the weekend. The December 17 episode—the last episode of the year, hosted by Elvis star Austin Butler—was also the last episode ever for cast member Cecily Strong.
Lizzo was not originally scheduled as the musical guest for this SNL episode. The band Yeah Yeah Yeahs were supposed to perform, and also would have been great, but they had to back out due to a sick band member. Luckily, Lizzo stepped in and, as always, the singer and flutist put on quite a memorable show with a song from her 2022 album Special as well as a Christmas classic.
First, Lizzo performed her song “Break Up Twice” in a gorgeous white nightgown. You can watch her performance here:
For her second and last SNL performance, Lizzo performed “Someday at Christmas.” The song was originally recorded by Stevie Wonder in 1967, and over the past few decades has been covered by many recording artists including The Jackson 5, Justin Bieber, and, of course, Lizzo herself.
